Door of the sticks – Puerta de los palos

This gate is located at the foot of the Giralda, at the bottom of the San Sebastián ship.

Its first name was the one of door “to the Corral de los Olmos”, receiving, with the relief of its tympanum, the official invocation of “Adoration of the Magi”, but since in the XVIII century a Muslim arch that intestaba against The facade of the tower’s lift, called “Palos Gate” by the wooden rake it had, collected its name. Through it the cofradías leave during the holy week. In its north side appears a shutter that gives direct access to the immediate gothic chapel, the one that was not finished when it was decided to conserve the Giralda.
